How To Replace iPhone 5 / 5s / SE Battery In A Few Easy Steps [DIY Guide]

Due to their unibody finish and lack of a removable back cover, many presume that changing / replacing an iPhone 5, iPhone 5s or even iPhone SE’s battery is difficult. While this, to some degree, is true when comparing to some other phones on the market, the following do-it-yourself videos prove that not only is it relatively easy to do with the right tools and a little patience, but it’s also relatively cheap than going to Apple Store for an out-of-warranty repair. You can check out the video walkthroughs right after the jump.
Whenever an iPhone’s battery begins to deteriorate, it’s amazing how many people I’ve encountered simply write it off as over the hill, and rather than even considering purchasing a new one and installing it themselves, simply and go out and buy a whole new device. With that said, it’s annoying that the iPhone 5/5s/SE, like each Cupertino smartphone before it, can only be accessed with a screwdriver, and since this is a warranty-voiding procedure, it’s unsurprising many are off-put, particularly those with scant tech knowledge.

However, as can be seen in the video demonstrations below, it’s not really difficult to replace your iPhone’s battery and rejuvenate a device which you may otherwise have thrown out. It’s an unfortunate inevitability that the battery retention will decrease over time, but if you were to watch the video and take on a few simple pointers, you could save yourself quite a bit of money paying for repairs or worse, purchasing a new handset.
